Prominent community members joined together yesterday with local police to celebrate NAIDOC week at Boondall Police Complex. It was a gorgeous Brisbane day to enjoy the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week ceremony.
Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Damien Houston addressed the audience before a Welcome to Country was given by Aunty Vicki Dale on behalf of the Turrbal people. Her stories of growing up as a young indigenous girl in care were moving and provided a deep insight into the lives of so many indigenous people.

The audience were then entertained by the ceremony’s keynote speakers Carly J Wallace and Senior Police Liaison Officer Shelton Murphy. Each speaker shared inspiring stories of their experiences growing-up as an indigenous person, their current community work and their hope for a bigger, brighter future for Australia.
