The Queensland Police Service are currently conducting research on public perceptions of crime in the lead up to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, to evaluate the impact of Project Unite.
Project Unite is a security awareness campaign developed to inform and prepare the public for major events; like the Commonwealth Games in April.
You are invited to take part in this research, by completing an online survey that will take approximately 5 minutes to compete. You must be over the age of 18 and currently residing in Queensland to participate.

Armed robbery, Bowen Hills
Police are investigating after a service station was robbed by a man armed with a knife in Bowen Hills.
Initial investigations indicate around 7:20pm a man with his face covered entered the Bowen Bridge Road business and approached the counter before demanding money from the employee.
The worker complied, handing over a sum of money before the man left the premises on foot.
The man is described as being aged in his early 20s, slim build, wearing a beige cap, black long-sleeved shirt and black pants.
No one was injured during the incident.
It is believed the man may be the same person who robbed a South Brisbane convenience store around 5:50pm.
Investigations are continuing.

Police are seeking the owner of this ring found in the basement carpark of a shopping centre on Beams Road in Carseldine.
The gold ring with diamond insert was found on the afternoon of July 13, 2017.
All inquiries to find the owner have been exhausted.

Appeal for assistance, Chermside
Police are appealing to members of the public for information in relation to a man acting suspiciously in the Chermside area on Monday February 26.
At about 8.45am, the man was observed in the vicinity of Burnie Brae Park.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, 180cm tall, proportionate build, long dark hair past his shoulders, black jeans and black hooded jumper.
Any members of the public who have information, dash cam footage or other images of a person matching this description from this area are asked to contact police.

And that’s a wrap- The 60 Seconds Project
Today our 60 Seconds project, focusing on the topic of Family and Domestic violence, was wrapped up with the official awards ceremony for our winners.
Held at North Brisbane District Office, Police and Community Policing Board members welcomed our place winners for morning tea and prize presentation.
To recap, the 60 Seconds Project called for young people under the age of 18 to develop a 60 second video on the topic of family and domestic violence. We asked them to tell us how it affects them, how they see it and how we can impact the incidences of domestic and family violence. They did it and they did it exceptionally well.
Entries were received from far and wide, and we were astounded by the talent and insight of such young people.

Attempted robbery, Milton
Detectives investigating an attempted robbery at Milton on January 14 are appealing for public assistance to help identify a woman who may be able to assist with their inquiries.
At about 5.10pm, a woman who was exiting her car on Crombie Street was approached by another woman who demanded her car keys.
When the driver of the car refused to hand over the keys, the woman threatened to stab her.
The woman fled the scene on foot when the driver of the car ran away from her.
No one was injured during the incident.
Police are appealing for information in relation to the identity of the woman (pictured) who police believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

Police reinforce ‘if it’s flooded, forget it’ message
With heavy rain falling across large parts of the state today, police are urging motorists to drive to conditions and heed the message: if it’s flooded, forget it.
A number of drivers were rescued after proceeding through flooded roads in the Wide Bay area yesterday.
As the rain moves further south, police are warning drivers particularly around the Sunshine Coast, Caboolture and Brisbane areas to slow down, turn their headlights on and increase their stopping distance.
Under severe storms or heavy rain bands, flash flooding can occur very quickly and without any notice – even on roads that you usually travel on without any issues.
Flash flooding can cause significant structural damage to roads, so even if you think it looks safe, you can never be sure exactly what is underneath the water.

Disturbance, Zillmere
Detectives are investigating after receiving information of shots being fired during a disturbance between a group of men at Zillmere this morning.
Officers were called at 1:20am following reports of a physical altercation between around 30 men in the carpark of sporting grounds on Zillmere Road.
On arrival, two men were arrested by police for public nuisance offences and others moved on without incident.
In the process of dispersing the group, a witness told officers a dark four wheel drive had pulled up prior to their arrival, when a man in the front passenger’s seat removed a firearm from the vehicle’s boot and discharged it twice.
The witness told police the driver then accelerated away at speed.
No one was physically injured during the incident.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Zillmere Road to contact police.

Update: Armed robbery, Kedron
Detectives investigating the alleged armed robbery of a hotel in Kedron on February 8 have charged a man.
It will be alleged at 3.42am, three men, two armed with a firearm and the other with a machete entered the hotel on Gympie Road.
Once inside the men threatened a staff member and security guard making demands for money.
Staff have complied with their demands and handed over cash.
The two members of staff were not physically injured.
A 23-year-old Mansfield man has been charged with one count each of armed robbery, attempted arson and unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He will appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court today, February 16.
Investigations are continuing.
Fatal traffic incident, Windsor
A man has died after a truck crashed into a business in Windsor this morning.
Around 9.35am, a garbage truck left the road and crashed into the camping supplies store at the intersection of Northey and Lutwyche roads.
The male driver in his 40s was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Five other people were in the shop at the time.
Two were taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with minor injuries and are in a stable condition.
Rescue crews are working to stabilise the building and retrieve the deceased.
Circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
