The 2017 Ekka has finished for another year. The Queensland Police Display was a huge hit this year and offered children the opportunity to become Junior Police Officers.
Children were given a police hat, badge, police notebook and had their finger prints taken.  They were also given their first mission which was to attend the individual police displays and several other Government Departments and obtain a stamp from each department in their notebook. Once their notebook was complete, the children came back to the Junior Police Academy and entered a competition to win an iPad, a PS4 or an Xbox One.
There was a total of 2,113 entries in the competition with our winners being:

Isabella Peroni
Jessie Powell
Sam Ryan

Each winner was visited by police from the Crime Prevention Programs Unit and presented with their prize. Needless to say we had three very happy children.

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate the driver of a vehicle which evaded a Random Breath Test site in Fitzgibbon this afternoon.
At around 12:20pm officers were conducting an RBT operation on Linkfield Road when a vehicle tried to avoid being tested, driving towards a male officer and forcing him to jump out of the car’s path.
The officer was not physically injured during the incident.
Police located the car abandoned just before 1pm on Highbridge Circuit in Carseldine.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have been in Fitzgibbon or Carseldine area this afternoon and may have seen or have dashcam vision of the vehicle, a green Holden Rodeo utility with Queensland registration 575-XAD (pictured) to contact police.
Investigations are continuing.

Police are investigating following the attempted armed robbery of a general store on Stafford Road at Gordon Park.
Preliminary investigations indicate at around 6:20pm a man entered the store armed with a knife.
The man demanded money from a female staff member, who refused, before he fled the store on foot.
He was last seen running south on Rose Lane.
No money or goods were stolen and no one was physically injured during the incident.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 173cm tall and was last seen wearing a grey hoodie and dark pants.
Anyone who may have seen the man is urged to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.

These officers come from different stations, units and commands from around the state. They are mothers, fathers, partners, daughters, sons, brothers, sisters, colleagues and friends. They are police officers. They are LGBTI. They are proud.
Together they are part of the statewide QPS LGBTI Liaison Program, providing a professional, non-discriminatory, accessible policing service to members of the LGBTI communities.
Each of them have had their struggles. Each of them are now happy, something they once only ever dreamed about.
Today is Wear It Purple Day. Today is about making sure rainbow people feel safe. Today is about instilling pride within them.
These officers each have messages of advice and encouragement for the LGBTI community.
Listen to their stories and reach out if you need help.
It gets better.

Wear It Purple Day is tomorrow on Friday August 25. The day is all about celebrating rainbow people.
Drag out of the closet those purple clothes and wear with pride your loudest purple get ups.
This year the Queensland Police Service (QPS) is again supporting “Wear it Purple” to raise community awareness and empower Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) young people to know they are not alone and have the right to be proud of who they are.
Let’s get into the spirit by adding a dash of purple to celebrate diversity.
Keep an eye out for your local police officers who may be wearing purple boot laces, purple ribbons or the LGBTI QPS  rainbow lanyards.

Come and join us at Queens Park, Brisbane City (George, Elizabeth and William Street) on Friday August 25 between 8am and 3.30pm to support LGBTIQ+ young people and ‘Wear It Purple’.
