Great weather for ducks, but not for driving
The sound of rain on the roof prompts me to write my first (hopefully of many) myPolice blogs for Bayside.
With rainy weather affecting our city at present, a timely reminder of the dangers of wet and flooded roads is warranted.
Paramount is the notion “If it’s flooded, forget it” volumes have been spoken, and it’s all too often that I see people engaging in risky behaviour by trying to cross a flooded road. Please think about what you cannot see beneath the surface. A hidden ‘meter deep’ washout might be waiting to swallow unsuspecting cars and their operators.
So how does rainy weather affect our road network and vehicles?
Firstly, rainy weather increases the number of cars on the road. People are more reluctant to use public transport if it means waiting for the bus or train, getting wet in the process. People will opt for private transport instead and as a result,
Armed robbery, Aspley
Police have released CCTV footage and images of a man who may be able to assist with an investigation into the armed robbery of a sports club in Aspley yesterday.
At around 1.10pm, a man entered the Kirby Road address and threatened a female staff member with acid.
The man left the scene on foot with a sum of money and was last seen making his way across a football field and then towards Kirby Road.
No-one was physically injured.
The man is described as being of Asian appearance, aged between 30 and 50 years of age, 160cm tall with a proportionate build, and was wearing a white shirt, dark sunglasses, a white hat and had a bandage around his head.
Investigations are continuing.
