Road closures: Stradbroke Race Day, Ascot

Hendra police would like to inform motorists of road closures around the Doomben Racecourse on Saturday, June 10 for the Stradbroke Cup Race Day.
The following roads in Ascot will be closed from 8am till 7pm:

Hampden Street, between Nudgee Road and Onslow Street;
Brassey, Hopetoun and Onslow Streets will be closed to through traffic from Lamington Avenue

Congestion is expected on Nudgee Road due to the high volume of horse transportation, taxis and private vehicles attending the event.
Hendra police urge road users to be patient and avoid non-essential travel in the area.

Stafford Police Poster Competition winners announced!

Recently, Stafford Police Division held a poster competition for primary school aged children in the Stafford Police Division.
Children were invited to design a poster on the theme of “Police help keep me safe by…”.  
The poster competition was designed to encourage positive interaction between Adopt a Cops in the Stafford Division and their schools and also help children think about their own safety.
We were inundated with very creative designs and thoughts on the theme.

Each poster was on display in the Station for all Officers and staff to see and also vote on which poster was their favourite – it was not an easy task, as all the posters were so great!
The votes were tallied and yesterday we were able to announce the grand finalists from the two age groups with an afternoon tea at the Station with the winners and their families.

UPDATE: Robbery with violence, Chermside

Detectives have charged a man after a violent robbery at Chermside on June 7.
It is alleged about 6.20pm, two men walked into a bottle shop on Gympie Road and selected a number of bottles of alcohol from the counter area.
If is further alleged a man approached a female attendant and struck her on the head with a bottle before fleeing the scene on foot with a number of bottles of alcohol.
The 23-year-old woman suffered a cut to her head and was taken to hospital for treatment.
At about 12pm today, detectives from Carseldine Criminal Investigation Branch arrested an 18-year-old Townsville man in relation to this matter.
The man is charged with one count of robbery and will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 10.
Police wish to thank the public for their assistance.
