Coffee with a Cop, Ascot

Today, we held a Coffee with a Cop event at Leo’s IGA.
It was an excellent opportunity to chat with local residents and business operators over a great cup of coffee.

Thanks to Councillor David McLachlan for popping in to chat with locals as well.
Coffee with a Cop events happen monthly in the Hendra Division and provide community members the chance to meet their local police officers and ask any questions that they might have for us.

Issues discussed today included road safety concerns, home security tips and advice in relation to schoolie’s preparations!
Our next Coffee with a Cop event will be at 9.30am on Wednesday, November 27, and this time we are heading to Nundah!
You will find us at the Nundah Corner Coffee and Bistro.

Out on patrol with Stafford Police in Gordon Park and Lutwyche

Stafford Police conduct regular patrols within the division to ensure our communities stay safe, and yesterday Stafford Police were out in force in the suburbs of Gordon Park and Lutwyche.
Stafford Police regularly conduct patrols in around the Kedron Brook bikeway which meanders through neighbouring police divisions and yesterday were also joined by local Ferny Grove Officers and Road Policing Command.
Along, with the traditional police patrols in the car, the officers added other methods of patrolling to the mix with officers on foot, riding bicycles, trail bikes and even utilising the very handy All-Terrain Vehicle along the bike way.
Did you spot any of these officers out on patrol?
Officers were able to speak with many local residents and workers who use the Kedron Brook bike way every day to get to work or for fitness.
Police were encouraging all bike way users to be aware of their surroundings and aware of what is

Diwali is the Indian festival of Lights and is celebrated annually with the greater community of Banyo and surrounding suburbs. Diwali marks the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.
And although the rain was heavy and hard for the whole morning, for the afternoon event the sun came out and 100’s of locals got to enjoy the many colourful performances, delicious food, and cultural performances.
The marked police car, and dress up police uniforms are always a draw card for the children, and it’s great to have the opportunity to engage with the community , talk about the role of police.

Bicycle identification event, Sandgate

On Sunday, October 13, police from the North Brisbane Crime Prevention Unit joined Sandgate Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) groups to host a bicycle identification and bicycle safety event at the foreshore at Sandgate.

It was a great opportunity for Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers, Volunteer in Policing (VIP) and the NHW members to interact with community members and families that utilise this beautiful part of Brisbane.

We had a large number of people stop to have the serial numbers of their bicycles registered on the QPS computer system.
In the event their bicycles are stolen, this recording of their serial numbers against their personal details makes the return of property to the correct owner much easier for police.

Members of the public were also able to grab some refreshing fresh fruit and a cool drink while they obtained information brochures on bicycle safety, Brisbane City Council booklet ‘Riding in Brisbane’, and other bicycle related information.

Family Fun Day at Northgate

On Sunday, October 13, Queensland Police Service (QPS) joined with Northgate Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) groups, Councillor Adam Allan, State Emergency Services (SES) and members of the Northgate community to celebrate their annual ‘Family Fun Day’ at Progress Park, Northgate East.
The weather was beautiful and community members had the chance to enjoy some great food whilst listening to the ‘Big Band’ – a local musical group that meet up once a week.

The children enjoyed the farm animal patting area, jumping castle, popcorn and fairy floss.
They also got a chance to be pretend police officers in a real police car.
Police were able to provide home and vehicle security advice to residents and talk to community members about any issues in the local area.

Police would like to thank the NHW committee and members for volunteering their time and energy to host such a wonderful community event.

Coffee with a Cop, Aspley

On Sunday, October 13, police from Carseldine Police Station and the North Brisbane Crime Prevention office hosted a Coffee with a Cop event for the first time in the Aspley Homemaker Centre.
Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) groups form Carseldine were also in attendance.

The Coffee with a Cop initiative is a great opportunity for local community members to ask police any questions they have about issues that are important to them or happening in the area.
On this occasion, police were able to answer questions about hooning and traffic related matters in the local area.
There was also a particular interest in how police prioritise the jobs that they attend and what local NHW groups do in the area.

The North Brisbane Crime Prevention Unit have several more Coffee with a Cop events planned for October, including:

Wednesday, October 16 from 9.30am – 10.30am at Leo’s IGA (Racecourse Road, Hendra)

Stealing offences, North Brisbane

Between June 13 and October 8, 16 enter with intent stealing offences relating to churches have been identified within the Gateway Patrol Group.
This month, five offences have been identified in the Inner West Patrol Group, primarily in Mitchelton and Keperra.
It is likely offenders are targeting churches due to limited security and offence locations do not have CCTV footage.

Crime Prevention staff from the Gateway Patrol Group have taken steps to reach out to places of worship and offer crime prevention advice, including the following tips:

Frequently empty cash from your building, however try not to make it the same time/routine every day. Police can provide ‘No Cash Kept on Premises‘ stickers that can be displayed around your buildings;
Ensure that if you have CCTV, that it is targeted at entry/exit points at normal head height;
Ensure your business contact details are up to date with QPS. Click here to view the QPS key holders
