The Minister for Police and Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP, the Member for Lytton, Joan Pease, and Commissioner Ian Stewart today attended the naming ceremony for two new Water Police vessels.
Minister Ryan said the new vessels illustrate the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment meet the community’s expectations and deliver cutting edge technology.
“These new vessels improve the present and future operational capabilities of the Queensland Water Police.
“The naming of the vessels after Sergeant Dan Stiller and Constable Casey Blain is a fitting commemoration for these officers,” Minister Ryan said.

The Member for Lytton welcomed the new vessels as an important boost for people in the community.
“These vessels are a commitment of the State Government to ensure our police service continues to be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to ensure they are as effective and efficient as they can possibly be to keep the community safe,” Ms Pease said.

North Brisbane Police at thr Masjid As-Sunnah Mosque, Lutwyche
Today marks the one week anniversary of the Christchurch incident.
As a mark of respect, QPS members from North Brisbane joined other members of the general community at the Masjid As-Sunnah Mosque, Lutwyche and the Masjid Taqwah at Bald Hills for their Friday prayers.
Officers have presented a condolence book to both mosques  for members of the community to pay their respects and to honour the memories of those who lost their lives in Christchurch, New Zealand.
These books will be collected on March 29 and delivered to the Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Islamic Centre, New Zealand.
The Masjid As-Sunnah at Lutwyche is hosting an Open Day this Sunday, March 24 from 11.30-3pm.
It is an opportunity for non-Muslims to attend the mosque, and ask questions about Islam and Muslim’s way of life. For further details click here.

LGBTI Liasion officers now available 24/7
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) Liaison Officers from the Brisbane Region have today launched a new service allowing members of the community the ability to contact them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is committed to ensuring policing services are accessible to all members of the community.
Police work closely with LGBTI communities to develop partnerships, awareness and understanding of impacting issues.
The LGBTI Liaison Officer Program provides a professional, non-discriminatory, accessible policing service to members of the LGBTI communities. This is achieved by:

developing an awareness and understanding of LGBTI communities;
developing partnerships with LGBTI communities;
ensuring equality, accountability and professionalism in our contact with LGBTI communities; and
improving service delivery to LGBTI communities.

As part of the LGBTI Liaison Program, a number of police personnel are dedicated LGBTI liaison officers.

Ashgrove detectives today have charged a 35-year-old and 34-year-old man with a number of offences following investigations into the alleged theft of a tradesman’s trailer from an Ashgrove construction site.
The trailer contained over $50,000 worth of tradesman tools, which was stolen in the early hours of February 5.
Police will allege the trailer was located during the execution of a search warrant on March 4 at a Chambers Flat address.
The 35-year-old Logan man has been charged with ten offences, one count each enter premises, wilful damage, unlawful use motor vehicle, stealing, possession of suspected stolen property, possession utensil, possession property suspected to have been used in the commission of an offence, and two counts of receiving tainted property.
The 34-year-old Lockyer Waters man has been charged with five offences, one count each of unlawful possession of a motor vehicle, wilful damage, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of utensil, and possession property suspected

Senior Constable Melanie Stuart is an experienced Intelligence officer within the Gateway Patrol Group and works diligently generating intelligence for first response officers and Detectives to combat and fight crime.
But, Senior Constable Stuart is also a mum to two young boys, one of whom has just commenced prep at St Kierans’ Primary School at Brighton. On Thursday March 15, Senior Constable Stuart was officially sworn in as the St Kierans’ school Adopt-a-Cop, much to the excitement of both the students and her own two young boys.
Now affectionately known as ‘Senior Constable Mel’, she will continue her Intelligence role and will also become a local police friend for the school, delivering education alongside the teachers, attending school events and meetings and more generally becoming part of the school community.

Police from the Gateway Patrol Group are reminding residents to secure their homes even when at home as thieves have targeted a number of homes in the Brisbane North, most recently in the suburbs of Chermside and Wavell Heights.
To determine how secure your home is, think like a burglar and consider the following:

From the outside of your home, consider how difficult it would be to break in;
Carefully observe any items or objects in your yard that could offer assistance to a would-be thief;
Are there any tools lying around your yard that could assist in prying open a window; are there any ladders laying beside the shed; or are trees and shrubs concealing windows providing cover for a burglar while they break in?;
Do not leave keys hanging visibly on key hooks and store your keys out of sight and in a safe place;
Ensure all doors and windows are locked prior to

Volunteers in Policing, Sergeant Jodie Murray and Police Liaison Officer with the community.
On Saturday March 16, the first of our 2019 quarterly ‘Worldly Women Meet, Greet and Eat Afternoon” events was held.
Women from Australia, Iran, Iraq, Samoa, Fiji, Japan, Columbia, Burma, Nepal, Bhutan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, India, China, Pacific Islands, and South Sudan shared an afternoon of peace, love and happiness and new friendships whilst laughing, eating delicious food, dancing Zumba and playing Bingo.
Theses events are such a huge success due to the collaboration of community groups that work together to ensure that this event is accessible for all members of our North Brisbane community.
The next Worldly Women event will be held on Saturday May 11, and will have a Mother’s Day theme.
We look forward to meeting more women at our next function.
