Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm) and deep reflection for Muslims and an estimated 600,000 Muslims in Australia are observing Ramadan.
Officers from the Gateway Crime Prevention Unit will be attending the Friday prayers during the month of Ramadan at both the Lutwyche and Bald Hills mosques as part of their ‘Sisters Stepping Forward’ initiative.
This initiative aims to bridge the gap, establish strong relationships, enhance awareness and share knowledge between Muslim women ‘sisters’, the QPS, and the wider community.
Officers held their first information session on Monday May 29 at the Lutwyche mosque on personal safety.
The next session on cyber safety is scheduled for Saturday June 15, from 12-2pm at the Bald Hills Mosque.
All members of the community are welcome to attend the sessions and share a meal together at the end.
