Police have taken almost 500 alleged drink and drug drivers off Queensland roads and detected more than 21,000 speeding motorists in the first week of the Festive Break.
On day 7 of the Festive Break phase of the Christmas Road Safety Campaign, 41 motorists were charged with drink driving while 46 drivers returned positive results of drug driving.
More than 3,100 drivers were detected speeding yesterday with the highest speed detected by a motorist travelling at 189 km/hour in an 80 km/hour zone in the Legacy Way Tunnel at Paddington.
Queensland’s highest reading yesterday was on the Gold Coast where a motorist allegedly provided a Breath Alcohol Consumption (BAC) of 0.267 per cent in Surfers Paradise.
Other high readings included:

0.242 per cent in Beaudesert;
0.242 per cent in Mermaid Beach;
0.200 per cent in Doomadgee.

A motorcyclist has taken flight in the Airport Link Tunnel on day 8 of Festive Break, allegedly detected travelling 192 km/hour in an 80 km/hour zone through Windsor.
The rider was one of 3,733 drivers detected speeding on Day 8 of the Festive Break phase of the Christmas Road Safety Campaign.
A 24-year-old Korean man lost his life following a single vehicle traffic crash on Sippel Road in the Lockyer Valley where the vehicle he was travelling in left the roadway.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene while a man located in the back seat sustained serious head injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.
A man and woman also travelling in the vehicle were treated for minor injuries.
A further 59 drivers were yesterday charged with drink driving with the State’s highest reading on the Sunshine Coast where a motorist allegedly provided a Breath Alcohol Consumption (BAC) of 0.224 per cent

One-hundred and fifty-seven people have been roadside tested for drugs in their system while behind the wheel in Queensland on Day 6 of the Festive Break phase of the Christmas Road Safety campaign.
Of those, 33 returned a positive result.
Since the beginning of Festive Break 143 drivers have been caught with drugs in their system behind the wheel.
Twenty-eight drivers returned positive tests for drink-driving on Day 6, with 259 people caught overall during Festive Break.
The highest reading across the state yesterday was a 37-year-old Newtown woman who was charged with one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of driving a motor vehicle without a driver licence and two counts of assault or obstruct police after allegedly returning a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.286 per cent at Newtown in Toowoomba.

Police have released images of a man who may be able to assist with their investigation into the armed robbery of a service station in Aspley this morning.
At 12.50am, a man armed with a knife entered the Gympie Road business and demanded money from a staff member.
The man left the scene on foot with a sum of cash and was last seen heading north on Gympie Road.
No-one was physically injured.
The man is described as Caucasian, aged between 25 and 30 years, 185cm tall with a solid build, short black hair, and was wearing a black and white Adidas hooded-jumper, black Adidas shorts, white sandshoes and tattoos on both lower legs.
Investigations are continuing.

Seventeen people were caught without their seatbelts on while behind the wheel in Queensland on Day 5 of the Festive Break phase of the Christmas Road Safety campaign.
Since the beginning of Festive Break, 84 drivers have been caught without their seatbelts while driving their vehicle.
So far 339 drivers have returned positive tests for drink- and drug-driving over the Christmas period.
The highest reading across the state yesterday was a 45-year-old Orange woman who was charged with one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of driving unregistered, after allegedly returning a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.245 per cent at Peregian Beach.
The state’s most high-risk speeding motorist was captured allegedly travelling at 201 km/hour in an 100km/hour zone on the Pacific Motorway at Slacks Creek.

The Forensic Crash Unit is appealing for public assistance as they investigate a three vehicle crash in Lutwyche this afternoon which resulted in one car bursting into flames.
Initial information suggests at 3.10pm, three cars crashed on Lutwyche Road near the Norman Street intersection.
Four occupants of one vehicle including the 45-year-old male driver, 34-year-old woman, a boy and a girl were taken to hospital with minor soft tissue injuries.
Three people in the second vehicle including the 23-year-old male driver, a 21-year-old man and a third male were taken to hospital with minor injuries after the car burst into flames and was subsequently destroyed.
The driver and sole occupant of the third vehicle, a 54-year-old woman, did not sustain any physical injuries.
The FCU is appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage to contact police.
Investigations are continuing.

Fourteen people were injured as a result of traffic crashes in Queensland on Boxing Day as the Christmas Road Safety campaign – Festive Break phase continues.
So far two people have been killed and 98 people injured on Queensland roads since December 23.
The state’s most high-risk speeding motorist was captured allegedly travelling at 177 km/hour in an 110km/hour zone on the Pacific Motorway at Yatala.
So far 275 drivers have returned positive tests for drug or drink driving over the Christmas period.
The highest reading across the state yesterday was a 46-year-old Hyde Park man who was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, after allegedly returning a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.237 per cent on Kings Road at Pimlico yesterday afternoon.

Police are investigating a single vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred at Newstead yesterday evening (December 14).
At about 11.30pm, a male riding a motorcycle crashed on Skyring Terrace.
The 24-year-old McDowall man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No one else was injured during the incident.
Police are appealing to any members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant dash-cam footage to contact police.
Police would also like to speak with any witnesses who observed a white and black Honda motorcycle travelling in Vernon Terrace or Macquarie Street prior to the crash.

Here in North Brisbane District we are the caring and considerate type. We know that there are many young people who haven’t yet had a chance yet to get their 60 Seconds Project entries submitted.
We want every young person to be given the opportunity to have their say.
So,  after careful consideration we are extending the closing date till 11:59pm January 13 2018. 
Now there are no excuses not to have a go at best competition of 2017.
The project calls for community members, under the age of 18, to create a 60 second video on the topic of domestic and family violence.

Police are appealing for witnesses following a traffic crash at Kenmore on December 18.
At around 9.10am a white Holden utility drove out of Kenmore Shopping Centre at the corner of Cedarleigh Road and Marshall Lane onto Moggill Road.
It is believed the vehicle then travelled over the centre median strip and collided with a blue Jeep.
Both cars sustained extensive damage as a result of the crash.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have been in the vicinity at the time and witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have dashcam vision to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers.
