Armed robbery, Calamvale

Police are seeking public assistance to identify a man involved in an armed robbery at a Calamvale hotel overnight.
Just before 9:25pm, a man entered the licensed premises on Compton Road and threatened a staff member with a knife.
The man stole a sum of money and fled on foot towards the vicinity of a fast food restaurant car park.
The man was described to be about 173cm tall, with a proportionate build, possible tattoo on his left lower arm, red hair, brown eyes, fair skin and had a foreign accent. He was wearing long black pants and long dark sleeve top and black gloves.
The 18-year-old male staff member was not physically injured.
Anyone with information that could help identify the men are urged to contact police.

Update 2 – Cold case homicide investigation

A second man has today been charged with murder following the death of Jay Brogden in Airlie Beach in 2007
As part of the investigation by members of the Homicide Investigation Unit and Whitsunday CIB detectives, the man was extradited from New South Wales yesterday over his alleged role in the murder.
The 33-year-old man was originally arrested in Coffs Harbour on March 26 by the New South Wales Police Force on unrelated matters.
He has been charged with one count of murder.
The man is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning.
Investigations remain ongoing.

Stolen Nissan Patrol crime circle stopped by QPS

With over 20 Nissan Patrol vehicles reported stolen from North Brisbane this year, QPS are very happy with the results of a search warrant that was executed by Cleveland CIB on September 21 at an address in Redland Bay.

The address was an acreage property and consisted of several large unused poultry sheds.
Police located over 80 vehicles at the address.
Initial investigations have revealed that 21 of these vehicles were identified as being of interest either being stolen or re-birthed with most of these vehicles being Nissan Patrols.

A number of Nissan Patrol engines were located in an unused poultry shed with eight allegedly being identified as stolen.
The sheds contain a large number of vehicle parts consisting of bonnets, wheels, tyres, bull bars, car doors and seats, tool boxes, ute trailers and canopies.
A large number of power tools and trade equipment were also located that appear to be from the stolen vehicles.

QPS join in for ‘Pop up and Play’ at Zillmere State School

Officers from Gateway Crime Prevention Unit, and Police Liaison Officers (PLOs) Moria and Aman, joined in with the Jabiru ‘Pop Up and Play Bus’ end of term event at Zillmere State School last week.
This is a once a term event where Jabiru host an afternoon of fun activities and delicious healthy snacks for the kids, whilst the parents and caregivers are given an hour break at the end of school to enjoy each others company, and a cup of tea/coffee whilst the kids are entertained.
It’s a fantastic opportunity for QPS to engage with our multicultural communities  in the Zillmere area, and have positive interactions with school children in a fun and relaxed environment.
Some officers chose to be energetic and join in with handball, whilst others preferred the quite sitting down and colouring in whilst having a chat to the kids.

‘Bringing Cultures Together’ event shines light on domestic and family violence

On Saturday, September 21, for the second year running, the Queensland Police Service hosted the  ‘Bringing Cultures Together’ community event at the Zillmere PCYC.
This year the theme for the event was Healthy Relationships, and Domestic and Family Violence.
Uncle Alex Davidson, a local Elder,  gave an acknowledgement to country to open the event, and welcomed people of all cultures and nationalities to share the traditional land.
Mrs Archna Singh, Honorary Consulate of India, for Queensland, spoke about the added complexity to domestic violence matters where cultural aspects, including Dowry, Migration Law and visas, shame and isolation add to the complexity of an already complex and difficult subject of Domestic Violence.
The community also had the opportunity to hear presentations from QPS ‘Vulnerable Person Unit’, and Emerson Family Law, with specific and detailed information on how the Migration Act works with the Domestic and Family Violence Act and the Family Law Act.

School’s out….. and QPS are out and about

For the school holiday period, police from the Gateway Patrol Group will be working closely with Westfield Security, to keep everyone safe.
Police officers will be performing proactive patrols and engaging with the community to spread the word about personal safety, visual awareness and vehicle security.

Always exhibit strong and positive body language to appear self assured.
Be aware of your surroundings and alert to what is going on around you.
Listen to, trust, and act on your gut instincts and if  you sense danger from someone, something or a place, immediately remove yourself from the situation.

Police attend 2019 Zillmere Festival

On Saturday, September 14, the Gateway Crime Prevention team along with Police Liaison Officers Tony and Moria participated in the 17th annual Zillmere Festival, ‘One Place Many Cultures.’
Zillmere is often referred to as the ‘multi-cultural hub’ of North Brisbane, and this festival served as an opportunity for the Queensland Police Service (QPS) to engage with the diverse cultural groups that make up the community.
The event was filled with cultural performances and displays, delicious traditional dishes from a variety of nations, and local community groups showcasing their business goods and services.
The marked police vehicle QPS had on display was a hit, young boys and girls were lined up throughout the day to try on police uniforms and sit in the police car.
This festival is always a highlight for the Gateway Patrol Group.

Spring Break brings another road safety school holiday reminder

With spring school holidays comes an extra volume of Queensland road users getting behind the wheel.

Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP joined Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating of Road Policing Command to officially launch this year’s Operation Spring Break.
The Operation will once again focus on safe driving behaviour throughout the school holiday period.
Assistant Commissioner John Cawcutt represented Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Acting Assistant Commissioner Matthew Green attended on behalf of Queensland Ambulance Service, as the operation will see emergency services working together to promote the safety of all Queensland road users.
Assistant Commissioner Keating said the state-wide effort at this time of year would encourage motorists to continue to take care.

Stealing and wilful damage, Auchenflower

Police are seeking public assistance to help identify two men following a stealing matter that occurred in Auchenflower Monday morning.
Around 1.16am a white Toyota Hilux utility was used to smash into a parking ticket machine located in a Lang Parade multi-storey carpark.
Police will allege the two men then used a number of tools to force open the machine before they fitted a chain around an internal safe and removed it.
The machine was dragged approximately 50 metres before causing a significant amount of damage.
The internal safe is described as being 40 centimetres wide and about 180 centimetres in height.
Investigations indicate the ute had been stolen from a Turner Avenue address in Fairfield on Saturday.
Police are appealing for anyone with information or relevant dashcam footage about this matter to contact police.

Update – Fatal motorbike crash, Capalaba

Investigators have launched an appeal for information following a fatal motorbike crash at Capalaba yesterday as they work to identify motorists who were in the area.
While investigators have already identified some vehicles in the area, they have released dashcam footage of a red sedan, possibly a Holden Commodore, they would like to speak with the driver as they may have relevant information.
Initial inquiries indicate the man was travelling westbound on Finucane Road around 3.40pm when he lost control of his motorbike near Elmhurst Street.
The 31-year-old Birkdale man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Forensic Crash Unit investigators are appealing for any witnesses who have not yet contacted them or anyone who may have additional dash cam vision to contact them.
