Police from the Gateway Crime Prevention office, along with Boondall Police and Crime Stoppers are looking forward to having a relaxed conversation about any concerns or questions that the public may have for their local police.
This is a fantastic opportunity for members of the Queensland Police Service to engage with community members, spread the word about home and vehicle security, identity theft and scams, reporting procedures for suspicious activity and any other questions that the locals may have.
The crime prevention office will also have some crime prevention material to hand out to those that attend for a cuppa at a great spot within the shopping hub of Westfield Chermside.

Update 3: Appeal for assistance and release of CCTV – Death investigation, Kalinga Park
Detectives investigating the death of 26-year-old Ioli Hadjilyra whose body was found in Kalinga Park on Wednesday, September 4 have released the name and image of a man who may able to assist with their investigation.
Bradley Edwards, 34 (pictured below) is described as Aboriginal, 190cm tall, slim build, black hair and brown eyes.
Police believe Mr Edwards may frequent within the inner-city and North Brisbane areas including Fortitude Valley, Nundah and Windsor.
Police are urging anyone who sights Mr Edwards or has any information regarding his current whereabouts to not approach him and to immediately call Triple Zero (000).

Police attend Indigenous careers and educational pathways expo, Zillmere
On Friday, September 6, the North Brisbane Cross Cultural Liaison Unit took part in the Indigenous Careers and Educational Pathways Expo at Zillmere PCYC.
This year’s expo was the second one held, after a successful inaugural event in 2018.
It was coordinated by the Kurbingui Youth and Family Development Group with the assistance and support from the Queensland Police Service and the Zillmere PCYC.
The aim of the Indigenous Careers and Educational Pathways Expo was to address and bridge the gaps in social and economic well being by increasing Indigenous representation in education and employment opportunities.

QPS representatives at the Nundah Festival
Yesterday, police from the Gateway Patrol Group, along with the Hendra Neighbourhood Watch Group, and Volunteer In Policing (ViP) Jan, attended the annual Nundah Festival.
This event seems to grow in popularity and numbers every year.
It is a great opportunity for police to engage with the community and enhance awareness of crime prevention strategies to keep community members and their property safe.
It was great to have so many parents and guardians bring their little one’s up to police to say hi as it gave us the opportunity to explain to them what to do if they get lost or felt unsafe, and gave them some tips on how to identify a police officer.
Police will also be setting up their Mobile Police Community Bus at the Zillmere Multicultural Festival this weekend.

With school holidays fast approaching, police are seeking the assistance of the community to keep an eye on our local schools.
While the students and teachers will be enjoying a break away, unfortunately schools can become a target for offences such as graffiti, arson, trespass and break and enters.
While police and security guards will be patrolling the areas, we require help from community members by taking part in School Watch.
The School Watch program is a partnership between the Queensland Police Service, Education Queensland and the State Government Protective Security Service.
School Watch aims to reduce criminal activity in Queensland schools and encourages everyone to look out for after hours crime in our schools.
If you see anything suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene.

Fatal crash, Aspley
A 19-year-old man has died following a two-vehicle crash at Aspley this morning.
Just after midnight, Police were called to the intersection of Gympie Road and Webster Road.
It is believed the Kelvin Grove man was the driver of a Toyota Celica sedan, when it collided with a truck.
The 55-year-old driver of the truck was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating the cause of the crash.
Update 2: Death investigation, Kalinga Park
A team of detectives and specialist police continue to investigate the death of 26-year-old Ioli Hadjilyra.
The crime scene examination by forensic officers has been completed and police have conducted a thorough search of Kalinga Park and adjacent railway lines for any evidence.
An Investigation Centre has been established at Hendra Police Station with more than 40 detectives, intelligence and forensic officers investigating Ms Hadjilyra’s death after her body was located in Kalinga Park on Wednesday, August 4.
Detective Inspective Tim Trezise, Gateway Crime Group, North Brisbane District said police continued to appeal to the public for assistance.
“We continue to appeal for any sightings of Ms Hadjilyra in or around Eagle Junction or Toombul railway stations or Kalinga Park on Tuesday night (August 3) or Wednesday morning (August 4).”
Police have no information to suggest there is a risk to public safety and the community should feel free to go about their daily business
First Year Constables ready to serve the North Brisbane community
Yesterday, 76 new officers were sworn into the Queensland Police Service at the QPS Academy, Oxley campus.
Today, the eight First Year Constables below had their official induction into their policing career within the North Brisbane District.
For many of them, tomorrow will be their first operational shift.
Some might even be lucky enough to get their first weekend off!
The new officers include four women and four men.
They have been allocated to the following training stations:
Brisbane City
Fortitude Valley
Petrie
Indooroopilly
Hendry
Carseldine

They will spend six months at their first allocated training station and will then will transfer to another station within the North Brisbane District to diversify their training.

Update: Death investigation, Clayfield (Kalinga Park)
Detectives can confirm the identity of a woman found deceased in Kalinga Park yesterday as 26-year-old Ioli Hadjilyra.
Investigations into the circumstances that led to the discovery of Ms Hadjilyra’s body are continuing.
Ms Hadjilyra’s body was discovered in a garden under a railway overpass in Kalinga Park around midday in an area that is regularly used by the public.
Anyone who was in the area of the railway overpass at Kalinga Park from Tuesday evening to midday yesterday is urged to contact police.
