Boondall Police recruit kindy kids for a day

Recently, officers from the Gateway Crime Prevention Unit were invited to visit the children from Boondall Early Childcare Centre, Zillmere Boondall.

Police officers discussed the role of Police in our community and how they could identify a Police Officer.
The children had prepared a list of 10 top questions which the officers were only too happy to answer, especially question seven.

What kind of tools do you have?
Do you catch people who steal things?
Do you have police helicopters?
What do you do when people drive too fast?
Do you have police motorbikes?
Where do you live?
Do you sleep at the station like firemen do?
What kind of equipment do you have?
What is a part of your uniform?
If we need the police, do we call Triple Zero (000)?

Student Sebastian became a Sergeant for the day and thoroughly enjoyed his time as he helped to fingerprint his fellow students.
At the end of the day all the students enjoyed visiting

Coffee with a Cop in Bracken Ridge

Another great Coffee with a Cop event was held today at the Round Table Coffee shop, Gawain Road, Bracken Ridge.
There was plenty of take up for free coffee on offer thanks to the Officer in Charge of Sandgate Police Station, Senior Sergeant Jon Kent.
A big thank you to everyone who took the time to come along and ask questions of police, it was great to have some conversations and here your concerns.
A fun time was had by all – not to mention the free give-aways!

Locals who might like to be involved in future chances to chat to police might not have to wait too long between brews.
The next event for the Sandgate area will be held in about six weeks time at the Capulate and Co. coffee shop on Brighton Road in Sandgate.
Then we will revisit Round Table Coffee another six weeks after that – we will post more details

Garage and home security tips

As more and more residential units appear in our communities, it is important to ensure you maintain good security habits as poor habits can put the whole building at risk.
Garages and vehicles can become common targets for opportunistic thieves if they come across an open door which can give easy access to vehicles and other property stored in the garage.
Crime prevention officers have the following tips to help prevent opportunistic crime:

Always keep your garage or shed door closed and locked;
Avoid storing excess belongings in garage areas;
Ensure all property is secured if left unattended;
Check the garage door closes completely so potential car thieves can’t sneak in;
Remove valuables and garage remotes from your vehicle; and
Be aware of any suspicious activity near the entrance and contact police immediately if you witness anything suspicious.

Remember, the whole building is at risk if an intruder gains access through a garage.
