Detectives based at Hendra have extradited a man from Victoria this afternoon as part of ongoing investigations into a series of linked armed robberies in Brisbane three years ago.
Taskforce Islands was launched in 2016 after armed robberies at Murrumba Downs, Everton Park, Alderley and Albion during April and May.
The 29-year-old man is expected to be charged tonight and scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.

You might not think having your co-worker with you 24/7 sounds ideal, but for Sergeant Jaye Lilley it’s an important part of her dream job.
Former Senior Constable, now Sergeant Lilley works side-by-side with man’s best friend to fight crime with the Brisbane Dog Squad.

“Choosing the dog squad is a lifestyle choice,” Sergeant Lilley said.
“They live at home with us. They become part of your family. The dog relies on you and we rely on the dog for the results.”
Sergeant Lilley joined the QPS in 2006, at age 26.
From early on in her training Sergeant Lilley had a pretty good idea she wanted to end up in the dog squad, but it was a long road to get there.
First, she had to finish her recruit training, then her First Year Constable work with six months at Petrie and six months at Sandgate before she secured a permanent posting at
Coffee with a Cop success in Hamilton
Today’s Coffee with a Cop event at Leo’s IGA Racecourse Road Hamilton was a huge success.
Members of the QPS were joined by, Crime Stoppers and State Member Tim Nicholls, and spent the morning mingling with local businesses and residents.
This Coffee with a Cop event was an opportunity for the community to come out and meet their local police, discussing issues that are important to them and their neighbourhood.
Our invaluable Volunteers in Policing (ViPs) was also on hand to help share crime prevention messages and materials, with those who attended the event.

North Brisbane farewells Community Policing Board member
Members of the North Brisbane District Community Policing Board said farewell to a valued member this week.
Stuart Mellon from Clayton Utz has resigned his position on the board to pursue other challenges in life.
Mr Mellon told the group that his time spent with the Community Policing Board was some of the most rewarding work he has undertaken.
The Community Policing Board is a group of business owners, Government agencies and Queensland Police representatives, working together to better understand and address crime in the North Brisbane District.
The group has been working together since 2016, with current sub committees in the areas of Domestic and Family Violence and youth.
Mr Mellon was a valued member of the group and will be missed by all and the North Brisbane Community Policing Board wishes him well in all future endeavours.

As kids we play the game “cops and robbers”, but very few people get to live the game in reality.
For Plain Clothes Senior Constable (PCSC) Christopher Cronin from the Mount Isa Criminal Investigation Branch, that’s exactly what he does.
“I joined the police in 2010 as a general duties police officer. It took me three years to get a position as an investigator in the Criminal Investigation Branch.”
“It’s something that took a lot of work and I dedicated a lot of hours to. It wasn’t just something that fell into my lap.”
Positioned in Mount Isa, which is a part of the Northern Region, PCSC Cronin is passionate about improving crime rates for the local community.

Sisters Stepping Forward in North Brisbane
On Saturday June 15, officers from the North Brisbane District held the second event of their 12-month project, Sisters Stepping Forward, at the Lutwyche mosque/masjid.
Sisters Stepping Forward was initiated by North Brisbane Police Liaison Officer, Amam Sharman, who identified a gap in connections and relationships between the QPS and female members of local mosques in Lutwyche and Bald Hills.
The project is aimed at bridging the gap, establishing strong relationships, enhancing awareness and sharing knowledge between Muslim women, the Queensland Police Service and the wider community.
During Saturday’s event, officers presented a Cyber safety session, by delivering the Australian Federal Police package, ThinkUKnow.
Although the presentation is focused on what young people see, do and say online, the presentation aims to empower parents and carers with the confidence they need to help guide children and young people to stay safe online.
The presentation covered different topics including:

Police have charged a 27-year-old man in relation to an alleged assault incident at Kallangur on July 1, 2018.
Police will allege at about 3.40am, a 46-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman were cycling along Anzac Avenue when a dark coloured SUV drove past them. They heard a noise coming from vehicle and were hit with several pellets to their bodies and face area.
A few minutes later a 44-year-old man and a 48-year-old man were also cycling along Anzac Avenue when they saw a dark coloured SUV drive past them. At the same time they heard a noise coming from the vehicle but did not get hit with any projectiles.
A short time later all four, along with a 51-year-old man, were at the corner of Dohles Rock Road and Anzac Avenue when a dark coloured SUV drove past them and a series of pellets hit the cyclists again.

Older people in our community are particularly vulnerable to abuse which unfortunately the QPS see regularly.

Elder abuse is an act, either single or repeated, which occurs in any relationship where there is an expectation of trust which causes harm or distress to an elderly person. This can be physical, financial, sexual, social, psychological or through neglect.
Elder abuse does not discriminate. Victims of elder abuse can be women or men from ethnic and social backgrounds.
Sadly in 2017-2018, the highest proportion of perpetrators of elder abuse according to calls received by the Elder Abuse Prevention Unit, were the sons and daughters of the older person suffering the abuse.
