Sydney couple fined for border breach in truck

A Sydney couple, travelling in a truck, have been fined more than $9,000 after allegedly sneaking across the Queensland border before being intercepted by police.
An officer from the Road Policing Task Force intercepted the heavy vehicle on the Bruce Highway at Murrumba Downs around 1.30pm on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old male truck driver crossed the Queensland border at Coolangatta using a freight category border declaration pass, however, police allege a 21-year-old woman was also travelling in the vehicle without a declaration pass.
The 21-year-old Saint Clair woman and the Jordan Springs man were each issued with a $4,003 Penalty Infringement Notice (PIN) for failing to comply with Queensland’s COVID-19 Border Direction.
A string of heavy vehicle traffic infringements totalling $1,305 were also issued to the driver including for the vehicle being over length and for failing to record information in a work diary.

Suspicious device, Brighton

Police are appealing for information after a suspicious device was located in Brighton earlier this week.
On Tuesday, August 18 just before 10am a canister containing an unknown substance was found on a property along Greenwood Street.
The area was cleared until specialist police officers rendered the area safe.

Anyone who may have vision or noticed anything suspicious is urged to contact police.

Police trying to identify witnesses – Landsborough

Detectives from the Sunshine Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit are trying to identify and locate two witnesses to the alleged indecent treatment of a 15-year-old girl in February this year.
On Thursday, February 25 the girl was travelling on a northbound train when a man entered the train at Caboolture Railway Station.
Police are trying to locate a female passenger, and her male companion, who witnessed the alleged incident which occurred around 4.10pm.
The woman also assisted the girl.
The child contacted her family who met her at Landsborough Station where police attended and arrested the man.
A 36-year-old man is currently before the Court on one count of indecent treatment of a child under 16.

Coffee With A Cop is back at Taigum, North Brisbane

Police from North Brisbane Crime Prevention Office  have re-commenced with their monthly “Coffee With A Cop” events at Taigum Shopping Centre after a couple of months break with the strict COVID restrictions.

These events provide a unique opportunity for members from the local area to ask police any questions they have and discuss any local concerns…. all whilst enjoying a cuppa!
It was fantastic to see that everyone was complying with the social distancing rules, maintaining the 1.5 meters distance, and utilising alternatives to the traditional  handshake greetings.

The next scheduled “Coffee With A Cop” event at Taigum will be on Wednesday September 16 at 10am, and then every third Wednesday of each month.

Update: Police involved shooting, Upper Mount Gravatt

Police have charged a man following the stabbing of a police officer at Upper Mount Gravatt earlier this month.
A 25-year-old man has been charged with one count of attempted murder. The man remains in hospital and is expected to have a bedside hearing tomorrow (August 19).

A police officer is recovering in hospital after being stabbed by a man at Upper Mount Gravatt yesterday afternoon.
Police attended a residence on Hillgrove Street just before 5pm to serve the man with documents.
Preliminary information indicates the man lunged at an officer with a knife, slashing him across the face. Another police officer has discharged their firearm and shot the man multiple times in the abdomen.
The male senior constable sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries in the attack and is recovering in hospital.
The man, aged 25-years-old, remains in hospital after undergoing surgery overnight.
A crime scene declared is still in place as officers continue their investigations.

Update: Serious assault, Clayfield

Police have arrested and charged three people after a 43-year-old man was allegedly shot at a Clayfield home last night.
A 29-year-old Zillmere man has been charged with nine offences including attempted murder, enter dwelling threatening violence, possession of a shortened firearm, possession of explosives (ammunition) and possession of tainted property. He has also been charged with drug-related offences.
A 27-year-old Zillmere man has been charged with five offences including attempted murder, enter dwelling threatening violence, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a shortened firearm and dangerous drugs.
A 27-year-old Gordon Park woman has been charged with six offences including being an accessory after the fact, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possessing a shortened firearm and possession of dangerous drugs.
They have all been refused police bail and are due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Update: Serious traffic crash, Bray Park

A 17-year-old girl has died in hospital following a single vehicle traffic crash in Bray Park earlier this week.
At 7pm on Tuesday, August 11, a white Impreza sedan left the road and crashed into a power pole at the intersection of Old North and Lavarack roads.
The teenager, who was a passenger, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where she died yesterday.
The 17-year-old female driver suffered minor injuries and was also taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for observation.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident and is asking for anyone who may have witnessed the event or who may have dash cam vision, to contact police.

Building community connections at Boondall, Gayatri Mandir

Officers from the North Brisbane Crime Prevention team and the Police Liaison Officers (PLOs) were honoured to be invited to the first official sit down meal at the Gaytatri Mandir Hindu Temple at Boondall.
The Gaytatri Mandri temple was established in Boondall in 1991, and has been serving the Hindu community ever since.
We were honoured to join such an important day
This establishment enables the Hindu community a central place to practice their faith, join together as a community, and share their philosophy, culture, languages. It is also a place to share a meal together.
It was fantastic to see that the full COVID-19 safe plan has been put in place that enables this community to recommence face-to-face connection, including the preparation and sharing of meals.

Unlocked vehicles targeted in North Brisbane

Police in Boondall have seen a recent rise in the number of motor vehicles that have been unlawfully entered within the Gateway Patrol area.
Between August 10 and August 12, a total of 14 vehicles were reported to police as being broken into.
The majority of reported offences had occurred within the Bracken Ridge, Chermside West and Fitzgibbon areas and happened overnight, between midnight and midday.
Unknown offenders have been captured on CCTV trying door handles to identify if cars doors had been left unlocked before simply opening the doors and stealing property.
Property targeted included small portable items such as wallets and laptops as well as two instances of tools stolen from utility tool boxes.
Anyone with information about these offences is urged to contact police.
