Horsing around

The Queensland Police Service values its employees and their well being.
With this in mind, the QPS has developed a strategy called ‘Our People Matter’ which focuses on the health, safety and wellbeing of all its members and their families.
On June 6, as part of this strategy, members of the Crime Prevention and Vulnerable Persons teams from across Brisbane came together for a day of equine therapy.
The day was coordinated by Wounded Heroes Australia and involved QPS members interacting with horses through trust, walking with the horses and grooming them.

The day began as a challenge for some who held reservations of being near horses, however by the end of the day everyone was laughing and enjoying the company of their horse.
The exercise was a complete success and enjoyed by all.
Horses 4 Heroes Australia is a hands on equine program which focuses on ex and current servicemen as well as emergency service

Monthly Coffee with a Cop, Taigum Shopping Centre

Have you met your local police officers yet?
On the first Tuesday of every month, police from the Boondall Police Station, along with Crime Stoppers, and our Volunteers In Policing (VIP’s) attend Taigum Shopping Centre from 10am to 11am to give local community members an opportunity to ask any questions they might have, and get to know their local police a bit better…. and of course, enjoy a latte!
The majority of contact that QPS officers have with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations.
Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and because of this, some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street.
Coffee with a Cop breaks down these barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.
We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers at these events.

Christchurch says Ngā mihi nui (huge thanks)

In April this year, officers from Boondall Station facilitated the collection of messages of condolences from the Muslim community through the Masjid Ad-Sunnah Mosque in Lutwyche, and the Masjid Taqwa Mosque in Bald Hills as well as officers and staff within Boondall Station.
These messages were put together in a specially bound book which was then sent to our neighbours across the ditch and presented to those affected by the horrific events in Christchurch on Friday March 15.
The Queensland Police Service recently received a message of thanks from the leaders of the Al Nur and Linwood Masjid Mosques as well as members from the Afghan community and Inspector Hirōne Waretini (Tuhourangi / Ngāti Awa), District Manager, Māori, Pacific and Ethnic Services.
Inspector Sweeney relayed that the Muslim community was very touched and appreciative of the heartfelt gesture.
Our thoughts remain with the members of the Christchurch Muslim community as they continue to recover
