Every quarter, women from multiple nationalities and backgrounds – many of them refugees – gather together for to laugh, dance, mingle, eat delicious food, and share an afternoon together at the ‘Worldly Women’ events held at the Zillmere PCYC.
On Saturday May 11, the women celebrated with the theme of Mother’s Day.
Beautiful fresh flower corsages were made, many bellies jiggled whilst learning how to belly dance, and great prizes were won by many of the women attending.
The QPS is proud to partner with the many community groups to support this ongoing event.

Celebrating Mother’s Day as part of Domestic Violence Awareness month
Each May, Queensland marks Domestic and Family Violence Prevention month (DVFP Month) to raise community awareness of domestic and family violence and to send a clear message that violence of this sort will not be tolerated.
The Queensland Police Service is committed to working in partnership with the people of Queensland to provide professional policing services that will, over time, prevent and reduce the incidents of domestic violence in Queensland.
On Friday May 10, Police and Police Liaison Officers from the Gateway Patrol Group celebrated a Mother’s Day themed morning tea with some beautiful ladies who have had experience, or are working with families who are experiencing Domestic and Family Violence.
As part of the morning, the attending ladies were given some items of clothing from Uniforms 4 Kids (U4K) by one of the U4K volunteer sewers, Maria.
One of the main aims of the U4Ks program is to supply repurposed emergency service uniforms
Drug operation charges, Brisbane
Police have charged 24 people with 62 charges in the wake of a 12-month operation into a criminal organisation operating in the suburbs of Brisbane.
A total of 6 people were charged with Trafficking Dangerous Drugs.
During Operation Quebec Viper detectives from North Brisbane CIB successfully used a number of covert strategies alongside traditional investigative techniques were used to progress the investigation.
Police will allege the drug trafficking syndicate, which dealt in various drugs such as Heroin and illegal pharmaceutical drugs, has been successfully dismantled.
A 46-year-old Boondall woman and a 72-year-old Stafford woman have each been charged with drug trafficking.
The 72-year-old woman appeared in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court yesterday, and was granted bail.
The 46-yar-old woman appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

Working together for safer communities, Taigum
Yesterday, May 8, officers from the Gateway District Crime Prevention Unit delivered a business security and personal safety information session to staff and managers at Taigum Shopping Centre.
During the presentation, officers spoke about topics such as:
Laws and legislation in relation to shoplifting and theft;
Reporting procedures for offences and suspicious behaviour and people;
Cash handling procedures; and
Strategies to deal with persons under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
Together, we all also discussed strategies to ensure great communication between the QPS, centre management and business owners, within the shopping centre.

Brisbane North officers unite with community for Ramadan
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm) and deep reflection for Muslims and an estimated 600,000 Muslims in Australia are observing Ramadan.
Officers from the Gateway Crime Prevention Unit will be attending the Friday prayers during the month of Ramadan at both the Lutwyche and Bald Hills mosques as part of their ‘Sisters Stepping Forward’ initiative.
This initiative aims to bridge the gap, establish strong relationships, enhance awareness and share knowledge between Muslim women ‘sisters’, the QPS, and the wider community.
Officers held their first information session on Monday May 29 at the Lutwyche mosque on personal safety.
The next session on cyber safety is scheduled for Saturday June 15, from 12-2pm at the Bald Hills Mosque.
All members of the community are welcome to attend the sessions and share a meal together at the end.

National Road Safety Week – move over, slow down campaign
The Queensland Police Service is supporting a new road safety campaign as part of National Road Safety Week (NRSW) 2019.
“Move over, slow down” is a targeted social media and outdoor road safety campaign reminding drivers to behave safely when passing roadside emergency responders and their vehicles.
Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating from Road Policing Command joined other emergency services colleagues along with TMR and RACQ to launch the campaign today, on the day of NRSW dedicated to recognising the safety of roadside workers.
The campaign will run from today until June 8 through on social media, as well as on outdoor billboards at high-volume, high-speed locations on the Queensland road network, including the Bruce Highway at Eumundi, Warrego Highway at Crowley Vale, and Captain Cook Highway at Cairns North.

Break and enter, Strathpine
Detectives are investigating after a shopping centre was broken into earlier this morning in Strathpine.
Investigations to date have revealed that a man broke into a shopping centre on Gympie Road shortly before 5.30am when he smashed a glass door.
Once inside, the man then smashed the glass display window of a jewellery shop and stole a number of watches.
The man also smashed the glass of an electronic store and stole some property before leaving the centre on foot.
Police have released CCTV footage and are hoping that anyone who can help identify the man or has any information which may assist to contact them.
The man is described as Pacific Islander in appearance, in his 20s with black hair and had a proportionate build.
He was seen wearing what appeared to be a Donald Trump mask, a black Nike hooded jumper, black track pants, white Nike shoes and was carrying a number of Uber
Fatal traffic crash, Warner
Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred in Warner overnight.
Initial information suggests that a car was travelling on Kremzow Road when it crashed into a tree at 10.20pm.
The male driver and sole occupant of the car was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Armed robbery and deprivation of liberty, Mango Hill
Police are investigating after two armed men confronted a woman and forced her into a vehicle before robbing her in Mango Hill yesterday afternoon (May 2).
The 65-year-old local woman was walking along Halpine Drive sometime between 12MD and 1pm when a white Ford sedan, possibly an older style Falcon, pulled up alongside her.
A male passenger exited the vehicle and began to speak with the woman. As she turned to walk away towards Mango Hill railway station, the driver of the sedan hopped out of the car and stood in front of her holding a firearm, while the passenger produced a knife.
The pair then forced the woman into the back seat of the vehicle and demanded money before stealing a sum of cash from her.
The men drove around with the victim in their car for a short period of time before pulling up and dropping her off near a school in
