Acting Senior Constable Mark chats with the kids about the various roles of police.
Last week between February 18 and February 22, Boondall Sunkids learned all about police and what they do through ‘Police Week’.
The kids learned what to do should they lose their Mum, Dad or carer while out shopping and also the different roles police play in the community.
Acting Senior Constable Mark Aichholzer from the Gateway Crime Prevention Unit was lucky enough to go to the kindy and have a chat with the kids about policing.

Brisbane North Officers attend ACU market day at Banyo

Police and Volunteers in Policing (ViPs) from the North Brisbane District spent this morning, February 26, with students and teachers from the Australian Catholic University at Banyo.
The morning’s event was a market day and an opportunity for the university to showcase support services both internal and external, available to students and the QPS was proud to attend this market day.
We were able to take our “Beer Goggles” along with us, to demonstrate the different effects of alcohol on concentration, balance and fine motor skills.
The goggles were an eye opening (pun intended) experience for most and hopefully a memorable lesson in the fight against drink driving.
Thanks ACU – we had a lovely morning with you all!

Over the course of the three days, students were given the role of Police Officer in training and were able to learn about many different areas of the QPS and the role of an officer. Included in the program were visits to Police Headquarters in Brisbane, the Queensland Police Service Academy at Oxley and many specialist areas including the crowd favourite; the dog squad.
During their visit to Police Headquarters, students were fortunate enough to gain an insight into the role of the media with a visit to the Media and Public Affairs Group. Inspector Akhavan spoke to the kids about the various divisions of the group and also explained the process for media conferences which are broadcast on TV. As a special treat for the students –

Do you secure your motorcycle?

In December 2018, the QPS and RACQ launched a joint initiative to help prevent motorcycles being stolen.
Together, the campaign incorporates educational material and a social media presence to remind riders to take security precautions.
Did you know that between 2012 to 2018, 281 motorcycles were stolen within Brisbane alone?
96% of those motorcycles stolen were not fitted with a security device!
Of the 281 motorbikes reported stolen over the 7-year period, 127 (49%) were taken from parking bays, 138 (49%) were taken from a residence and eight (6%) taken from businesses.
The project is focusing on creating community participation through the engagement of various stakeholders and educating riders across the board.
It is the project’s aim to remind members of the community that if they see or hear suspicious behaviour involving thefts of motorcycles to take-action immediately.
Majority of the motorcycles that were stolen were considered ‘opportunistic’, therefore the best way to prevent your motorcycle from
