What a hoot in Everton Park!

Police from Boondall Station were recently confronted with an unusual request for assistance whilst out on their routine patrols in Everton Park.
Travelling along Trouts Road, all appeared normal when officers came across a vehicle parked on the side of the road.
It was early in the morning and the vehicles owner and his furry friend were both standing outside the car and looking rather perplexed.
As the officers made their approach, they noticed a rather fowl passenger inside the vehicle.
The information given by the witness was that they were driving along Trouts Road, minding their own business, when the Tawny Frogmouth flew in through the open passenger side window.
The driver immediately pulled over and exited the vehicle with their furry friend, unsure of what to do.
After some initial light taps and attempts to question the feathered offender, the bird was released from its self-inflicted captivity and in a daze, flew away.

Gift vouchers used to pay ATO scammer

Police are asking the community to remain vigilant and remember that no government organisation, particularly the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will seek payment via gift vouchers.
Police around the state have received a number of reports about ‘scammers’ calling members of the public and threatening arrest warrants if they refuse to repay a tax debt.
In many cases, the victims have been told to purchase large sums of gift vouchers as a form of payment.
Police in Maryborough were notified of a 40-year-old local woman who presented herself to the local police station, after she received a threatening phone call.
In this case, the ‘scammers’ requested payment through Google Play gift vouchers.
Another report was received by officers in Logan, where a 30-year-old Woodridge man purchased $9000 worth of gift cards.
The victim was asked to purchase iTunes and Google Play gift vouchers.
Investigations are continuing on both cases, however police are appealing to members of the community

Argos appeal to parents on Safer Internet Day 2019

This morning the Minister for Police and Corrective Services Mark Ryan MP joined the Queensland Police Service to deliver an important message to all parents, caregivers and educators as part of Safer Internet Day.
“The investigators within Queensland Police Service’s Argos and child protection officers across the state do a job not many of us could. They investigate internet facilitated crimes against children,” Minister Ryan said.
“Over the years, the team has seen the worst crimes and witnessed these atrocities captured across hundreds and thousands of images and videos. They have seen the pain, the trauma and the suffering. They have seen it all.
“But that’s their job and I would be joined by many people in suggesting the world is a better place because of people like them. It is because of their sheer hard work and dedication that so many children across the world have been removed from harm and saved

The bike way users were encouraged to also listen, trust and act on their instincts if unsure of a situation and to always carry a mobile phone whist on walks and if a crime is seen being committed to dial Triple Zero 000 immediately.
In a non-emergency situation, bike way users are encouraged to contact the local Police Station or contact Policelink on 131 444.
Police also spoke with many residents out on their daily walks with their dogs who were quickly signed up to join the ranks of Dogs on Patrol.

Improvement to DNA analysis introduced

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) and Queensland Health have strengthened DNA analysis capabilities following the recent review of some results.
The review was undertaken after a small number of results were recalled due to uncertainty as to the number of contributors within a mixture of DNA. This was isolated to samples that contained a mixture of DNA from three or more people.
The QPS reviewed all cases between 2013 and 2018 that involved this type of result and identified 138 matters in which the mixed profile evidence was potentially significant to the prosecution.
As a result of the review the integrity of all cases has been confirmed.
New technology was introduced in November 2018 which will prevent these concerns from reoccurring while also enhancing DNA evidence to solve crimes.
The integrity of DNA results is a significant priority for both departments who will always strive to continuously improve processes.
