Changing perceptions of Muslim and Police women in North Brisbane

Experiencing difficulties connecting with Muslim women in North Brisbane District was the inspiration for Detective Inspector Karen Ballantyne to create the SHE Program, to build relationships and connect Muslim and Police women in her local community.
The QPS SHE Program, See me Hear me Empower me, was delivered by QPS in partnership with two Muslim community groups, Sisters Support Services and Muslimah Mind Matters over four workshops.
The one-day events were conducted across the Brisbane Region bringing over 200 Muslim and Police women together to learn from each other, removing barriers and embracing their differences.
“While building bridges between QPS and Muslim women was the actual initiative, I felt it was a lot more about embracing our similarities,” Ms Angela Ishaq from Sisters Support Services said.
“New friendships formed between QPS and the Muslim women.  Respect, trust and understanding were the three key elements that were achieved.”
The workshops were attended by over 130 Muslim

QPS fixes banning notice error

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has resolved a technical issue which impacted some banning notice information.
The QPS is responsible for the transfer of banned person data to the ID scanner network introduced for relevant premises in Safe Night Precincts.
Ongoing monitoring of data quality identified on November 8 that some banning orders had prematurely expired on a QPS system.
The issue has since been fixed and no further instances of premature expiry of banning notice data have occurred.
As of December 5 there are 857 active banning notices on the QPS system.
A QPS analysis has revealed that banned person information for 116 people had prematurely expired between September 29 and November 22.
Of those 116 people, two were detected within an SNP (not within licensed premises) for offences during the period in which they were banned.
The initial offences related to public nuisance and obstruct police in one instance and stealing in the other matter.
