Personal safety plan when out and about

What does personal safety mean to you? Do you have a plan?
Without even realising it, many people already have an informal safety plan in place, such as carrying a phone, letting someone know when you are expected home or having a spare tyre in the car.
Police encourage members of the public to think about everyday situations they may be in, and to come up with strategies to make you feel secure.
The core personal safety strategies the Queensland Police suggest are:

Being committed
Be confident
Be aware of your surroundings
Trust and act on instincts
Be assertive
Develop a safety network

Be aware of your surroundings and alert to what is going on around you
Listen to, trust, and act on your instincts and if you sense danger from someone, something or a

Keep safe this road trip

Queenslanders are actively being encouraged to take a road trip in our state through the Queensland, you’re Good to Go tourism campaign.
With this in mind, we are reminding Queensland drivers to Keep safe this road trip.
We want everyone who is planning on taking a road trip over the upcoming school holidays to make safety their top priority.
Despite the decrease in traffic volumes this year, the number of lives lost on Queensland roads in 2020 stands at 108 (as at June 17), which is 14 more than the road toll at the same time last year.
With more traffic expected on the roads due to intrastate travel restrictions being lifted and people being encouraged to take a road trip, we are encouraging everyone to remember some simple road safety reminders to stay safe over the holiday break:

Slow down, stay safe. And drive to the conditions
Take a break every two hours
Make sure you always buckle

Commissioner Carroll said with COVID-19 restrictions easing, Queenslanders would be out exploring their state these holidays, but it was important they travelled safely.
“We are in a unique situation where families will be taking advantage of being able to travel further away from home for the school holidays and we expect traffic to increase significantly on our road network,” Commissioner Carroll said.
