Fitzgibbon residents invited to join police for Safe Street Visit

Gateway Crime Prevention Officers will hold a Safe Street visit in Fitzgibbon this weekend.
Join us between 9.30 -10.30am on Sunday 27th May 2018 at Hidden World Park, Roghan Road Fitzgibbon.
Police will be discussing recent local crime trends and will provide tips on how to best secure homes and motor vehicles.
They will also discuss the new Community Camera Alliance that was recently launched in Gateway Patrol Area.
Residents will also have an opportunity to meet with their local Neighbourhood Watch group and hear about how they may be able to help.

Vehicle seized as investigations continue into suspected murder of Sam Price-Purcell

As a result of information provided to investigators a vehicle has been seized in connection to the disappearance and suspected murder of Sam Price-Purcell.
Sam Robert Price-Purcell was last seen in the Mitchelton area on February 16, 2015. At the time of the sighting Sam was getting into a bright yellow 2010 Holden Commodore SS sedan. It is believed he then travelled to the Toowoomba area and has not been seen since.
Mr Price-Purcell 28 (commonly known as Sam Price) was last seen in the Mitchelton area on the afternoon of February 16, 2015.
On 24 May 2018, Detectives investigating Mr Price-Purcell’s disappearance executed a crime scene warrant, resulting in a yellow 2010 Holden Commodore SS sedan being seized and subject of forensic testing at Toowoomba Police Station.
Scientific examinations of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of forensic samples which have been submitted for further analysis.

Police DFV stall at Brisbane Airports

In a first combined initiative to promote DV Month, the Australian Federal Police and the Queensland Police Service set up an information area at the International Airport on Monday, May 21.
This is to be followed by Wednesday, May 23 another information area in the Domestic Terminal.
Why the Airport? Because unfortunately Airports are also where domestic and Family Violence incidents occur, more regularly then people may expect.
The purpose of the promotion is to highlight to the Community the Department of Communities domestic violence campaign asking the community to  ‘Do something’ campaign.
There are also lots of things you can do in your community and also as a bystander to help end domestic and family violence.

Hummingbird House visit

On Thursday, May 17 the Queensland Police Service Mounted Horses Lance and Merlin accompanied by their riders Senior Constable Natalie Lewis-Grofski and Constable Amy Walkden made a very special visit to Hummingbird House to visit the children.
Hummingbird House is the first of its kind in Queensland where children who are affected by a life-limiting condition, can stay at the residence with their families for  a short time and have a break.
The police in attendance thoroughly enjoyed their day and spending time with the children at Hummingbird House.
We have it on good authority the horses also enjoyed putting a smile on the faces of all in attendance!

Fatal traffic incident, Brisbane City

A woman has died after being struck by a bus in Brisbane City this morning.
Preliminary information suggests the woman was crossing Ann Street near the intersection of Wharf Street just before 7am when the incident occurred.
The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Ann Street is currently closed to traffic with diversions in place. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Armed robbery, Wilston

Detectives are investigating after the armed robbery of a man in Wilston early yesterday morning.
At around 12:30am a man was driving along Kedron Brook Road when he stopped to assist a man on a bicycle.
When the man stopped, a number of other people, one of whom was armed with a replica pistol, approached and demanded the man’s car before fleeing the scene in the vehicle.
The vehicle was later located on Barrett Street in Bracken Ridge at around 2:00am with the replica pistol inside.
The driver of the car was not physically injured during the robbery.
The men are described as being African in appearance.
Anyone with dashcam vision from Kedron Brook Road at around 12:20am or Barrett Street at around 2:00am is urged to contact police.

Police car, dogs and horses at Chermside Shopping Centre today for DFV Month

Come along to Chermside Shopping Centre today, Thursday, May 17, from 9am-8pm and meet officers from the Queensland Police Service and other government and non-government agencies for Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.
Located outside Kmart, all are welcome to check out one of our marked police cars and come and speak to police and other agencies about Domestic and Family Violence.
At 12noon the Mounted Police Unit will be visiting to meet with the public outside the Bavarian Bier Café. Police Dogs will also be popping by for a visit in the afternoon.
At 6pm Jacque Lachmund, CEO of Australian’s CEO Challenge, will address the crowd about Domestic and Family Violence, and Lia Walsh, winner of the QPS 60 seconds Domestic Violence Competition, will perform her winning DV slam poem entry.

Robbery appeal, Strathpine

Detectives are seeking public assistance following a robbery incident at a Strathpine liquor store earlier this month.
Around 6.20pm on Monday, May 7, a man entered the Gympie Road business and walked to shelves located at the back where he stuffed several bottles of spirits into a large bag.
The man was confronted by an employee and another customer as he attempted to leave the store with the stolen alcohol.
A customer attempted to intervene and prevent the man from leaving and the pair become involved in a violent altercation. A member of the public was hit but uninjured.
The man then fled on foot with the stolen alcohol towards Station Street.
He is described as Caucasian in appearance and was last seen wearing a dark coloured cap, grey jumper, tan coloured shorts and was holding an umbrella.

North Brisbane District Work Experience Program

During the period of May 8 to May 10, Police from the Inner West Crime Prevention Unit hosted and facilitated 11 senior high school students participating in the Queensland Police North Brisbane District Work Experience Program.
The students, comprised of Year 11 and 12 students from Kedron State High School, St Benedicts College, Rivermount College and the Aviation High School.
The Queensland Police Service, North Brisbane District Work Experience Program is designed for high school students interested in pursuing a career in the Police Service or other related areas in law enforcement.
The aim of the program is to assist students in making informed career decisions.

DV conference addresses young people experiencing domestic and family violence

On Friday, May 11 Platform 1225 (Qld youth Housing Commission) hosted their inaugural Domestic and Family Violence forum about Abuse of Power – Confronting Dynamics of Harm.
Held at Royal on the Park, the keynote speaker was internationally recognised Scott Miller from Duluth, USA (coordinator Duluth’s coordinated Community response to domestic violence).
This event was attended by government and non government agencies and focused on hearing the voice of young people who have experienced domestic violence whilst in their childhood and becoming homeless as a direct result of these circumstances.
The conference was about exploring viable options to support these young people and stop them becoming another causality of having no/little future options.
