Update 5: Homicide, Petrie

Police have charged two more people as investigations continue into the death of a 24-year-old man in Petrie on Friday, April 20.
A 21-year-old Nundah man was charged with one count each of murder and burglary on April 21. He was remanded in custody to reappear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 11.
Late yesterday afternoon a 19-year-old Petrie woman voluntarily attended a police station, where she was taken into custody and subsequently charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
A 22-year-old Enoggera man was also taken into custody at a police station yesterday evening.
He has also been charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
The man and woman are both due to appear in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court today.
Investigations are continuing.

Update 3: Homicide, Petrie

Police are continuing to investigate the death of a man in Petrie on Friday, Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming said today.
Detectives have spoken to a number of witnesses over the last few days, including some who were present in the unit on Young Street at the time the man was allegedly shot, as well as others who were nearby.
“As part of our investigation, we have today released the image of a woman who we believe may be able to assist us with our enquiries,” Detective Superintendent Fleming said.
“We want to hear her version of events and ask that she contact police as soon as possible – either by coming into a police station or through Crime Stoppers or Policelink.
“We are also asking anyone who may know where she is to come forward.”
A 24-year-old man was located with a bullet wound to his chest shortly after midnight on Friday morning.

Update: Attempted robbery, Nundah

Police have charged a youth following investigations into an attempted robbery at Nundah Thursday evening.
At about 8.10pm, a female bus driver was approached by a group of youths at a bus exchange on Sandgate Road.
It is alleged the youths spat on the driver and attempted to steal a cash tin however was prevented by the driver from doing so.
The driver was punched in the face by one of the juveniles prior to them fleeing the scene on foot.
The driver received minor injuries only.
A 13-year-old girl has been charged with robbery.
Investigations are continuing.

Brisbane Region Acting Assistant Commissioner Brian Wilkins urged members of the community to secure their vehicles when leaving them unattended, even when parked at home.

Alderley Police Complex break in, offender caught red pawed!

A small but willy offender has been caught red pawed, after getting trapped inside the Superintendent’s office at Alderley police complex overnight.
Acting Superintendent Garry Watts arrived for work bright and early, only to discover that his office had been ransacked!
Discovering uniform, office equipment and documents scattered all over the room, the experienced officer immediately took stock of the situation.
Further investigation revealed a brown puddle on the desk that was quickly identified as not being coffee, and scratch marks on a white board.

At this point, the Superintendent called for back-up and the now two-person strong team began a through, top to bottom search of the room.
Located hiding between three pelicans (cases) was the culprit. A staring contest ensued between the senior police officers and their pint-sized offender.
No confession was recorded from the offender, who continued to play possum on the whole situation.

Historical indecent treatment charges

Detectives from the Boondall Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) flew to Alice Springs earlier this week and successfully extradited a 65-year-old man to Queensland to face 65 charges of historical sex offences against a child.
It will be alleged the offences occurred against a girl, who was under the age of 17, between 1999 and 2008 in Brisbane and Far North Queensland.
The man was arrested by Northern Territory Police on March 23 after they intercepted him on a bus in Erldunda that was travelling to Alice Springs.
The 65-year-old Innisfail man appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday, March 28.
Officer in Charge of Gateway CPIU, Detective Senior Sergeant Stephen Stanton praised the dedication of all officers involved, including the Northern Territory Police.
“We place the highest priority on these sensitive investigations and it has been a collaborative effort nationally to ensure the pursuit of this person never stopped,” Detective Senior Sergeant Stanton

DV in LGBTI relationships: getting the conversation started

With the opportunity to gain first-hand insights into issues surrounding DV in LGBTI communities around the world, Senior Constable Ben Bjarnesen’s recent visit overseas has been nothing but invaluable.
As one of the recipients of the 2016 Churchill Fellowship Recipient, Ben was able to conduct research by working closely with international police jurisdictions across four countries.

He met with seven police departments and 15 community support organisations last year, with the aim of better understanding and documenting domestic violence issues in LGBTI communities, as well as capturing best practice in policing responses.
“We are all aware that domestic violence is quite an issue within the general community but it can be more so within the LGBTI community and it is often under-reported,” Ben said.
“Internationally, it appears the most common factor stopping LGBTI people from reporting DV and hate crimes is historical events involving negative interactions with

Armed robbery, Mitchelton

Detectives from Ferny Grove Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating the overnight armed robbery of a Mitchelton hotel.
Around midnight a man entered the Osbourne Road business and demanded money from the duty manager. He fled on foot a soon after with a sum of cash, and was last seen heading north towards Teralba Park.
The man is described as Caucasian, aged in his early 20s, approximately 185cms tall with a slim build, dark hair (cropped haircut). He was wearing blue runners, dark skin tight long pants with a pattern, a long sleeved shirt with dark sleeves and a white vest. The man was carrying a metal bar.
No one was physically injured.
