No excuses!
As a police officer you see a lot of interesting things on the road and one we see all too often is mobile phone offences.
There is a common misconception that holding your mobile phone on loudspeaker or having ear phones in is acceptable.
The term “use” encompasses, holding the phone to or near the ear, whether engaged in a phone call or not, to using any function of the phone.
Functions of the phone range from turning it on and off, using GPS, checking the time and even YouTube!
There are further restrictions for young provisional drivers, where you cannot use your mobile phones hands free function or loudspeaker function, even for music. Studies suggest that using your mobile phone is as dangerous as drink driving.
