Garage and home security tips

As more and more residential units appear in our communities, it is important to ensure you maintain good security habits as poor habits can put the whole building at risk.
Garages and vehicles can become common targets for opportunistic thieves if they come across an open door which can give easy access to vehicles and other property stored in the garage.
Crime prevention officers have the following tips to help prevent opportunistic crime:

Always keep your garage or shed door closed and locked;
Avoid storing excess belongings in garage areas;
Ensure all property is secured if left unattended;
Check the garage door closes completely so potential car thieves can’t sneak in;
Remove valuables and garage remotes from your vehicle; and
Be aware of any suspicious activity near the entrance and contact police immediately if you witness anything suspicious.

Remember, the whole building is at risk if an intruder gains access through a garage.
