Following a recent reported theft of a vehicle from a local shopping centre car park, North Brisbane Crime Prevention Officers have conducted ‘Lock It or Lose It’ assessments of cars parked in the same complex.
In a period of one hour, police made assessments of more than 200 vehicles and were shocked to find vehicles left with windows completely down, or half down, valuables left highly visible on front seats, and in two separate vehicles dogs were left unattended with windows half down.
Police would also like to remind vehicle owners about the legalities of leaving dogs unattended in vehicles.
The RSPCA webpage states that “Leaving an animal without appropriate water and shelter is an offence under the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 and you may be prosecuted.”
