School students make safer choices after road safety lesson

Officers from Queensland Police Forensic Crash Investigation and Crime Prevention Unit were invited to St Paul’s School in Bald Hills on Monday, September 7 to talk about making safe choices with all year 10 students.
The officers used impairment goggles to demonstrate the effects and potential risks associated with alcohol and other drug intoxication, with the goal of the program to educate audiences on the risks associated with alcohol and promote a responsible attitude towards all substance consumption.
Participants took part in a series of reaction, balance and target tasks while wearing the goggles, which gave them a surprising and impactful perspective on the dangers of alcohol and other drug consumption and driving.
Not only did the participants feel many of the impairing effects of alcohol and other drugs, but also appeared to onlookers to behave in an intoxicated manner.
Thanks for having us, St Paul’s!
