Sewing positive relationships in Zillmere

North Brisbane Police Liaison Officers (PLO’s) engage in a variety of community activities to break down barriers and to maintain regular contact with diverse community groups.
Challenge: What does a PLO do when given a bag of material by community and asked to do something with it?  You make fabric dolls! PLO’s Moira and Alma achieved this through establishing a partnership with the Women’s Sewing Group at Zillmere Community Centre.
The Women’s Sewing Group was formed from feedback after the refugee and settlement workshops to encourage social  interaction, mentorship and to improve English skills.
Facilitator and volunteer Karen welcomed the PLO’s to participate in the project.
Appreciation and acknowledgement to Pamela, also a valuable volunteer, who was the expert showing and guiding us all through the process.
Outcome: The end product as you can see in the pictures is  the “Zillmere Sews” neighbourhood people wall hanging fabric piece.
