On Wednesday August 7, Crime Prevention officers and Police Liaison Officers from the Gateway Patrol Group were invited to Zillmere State School to celebrate NAIDOC 2019 and National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day.
This years NAIDOC theme was Voice. Treaty. Truth. Working together for a shared future.
The afternoon was opened with a welcome to country by two of the senior students, before students from prep to year seven were encouraged to participate in cultural, physical, and fun activities with an indigenous focus.
Police were able to join in with the students for an afternoon of activities put together by Education Queensland groups, and local community groups, including Jabiru Community, Youth and Children’s Services Association Inc.
Police enjoy the opportunity to engage with our younger community, and establish strong and positive relationships.
Thanks for having us Zillmere State School, we look forward to coming back for a visit soon.
