Officer wings kookaburra rescue

On Sunday, March 22, Senior Constable Amanda Woodley from the Road Policing Command (RPC) was conducting patrols in Eagle Farm.
As she was travelling on the Southern Cross Way, she spotted a kookaburra in the middle of the right hand lane.
Senior Constable Woodley quickly stopped the police vehicle in the left hand emergency shoulder, knowing she had to wing the rescue.

As she got out of the police car she saw that other vehicles were approaching and she braced herself for the worst, however, thankfully they missed the bird and actually scared it off the road and in front of Senior Constable Woodley’s car.
Senior Constable Woodley said that she swooped into action and saw that its wing was badly injured.
“This wasn’t the first bird I have rescued whilst on duty, I’ve rescued a pheasant coucal before too,” Senior Constable Woodley said.
