On Saturday, October 12, Police from North Brisbane joined with the Banyo District Community Group to celebrate Diwali.
Diwali is the Indian festival of Lights and is celebrated annually with the greater community of Banyo and surrounding suburbs. Diwali marks the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.
And although the rain was heavy and hard for the whole morning, for the afternoon event the sun came out and 100’s of locals got to enjoy the many colourful performances, delicious food, and cultural performances.
The marked police car, and dress up police uniforms are always a draw card for the children, and it’s great to have the opportunity to engage with the community , talk about the role of police.
Police from North Brisbane were especially proud to have their own Police Liaison Officer (PLO), Aman Sharman, give a presentation at the event on her journey as a migrant arriving in Australia
