North Brisbane Police welcome students back to university with safety talk

Police from North Brisbane Crime Prevention Unit attended James Cook University on Friday for the first “post COVID-19 lockdown” orientation day for their International students.
It was great to meet all of the students from across the globe who are now furthering their education in Brisbane.
Thanks for joining us to talk about personal safety, JCU!
Police were able to talk to the students about their own personal safety focusing on:

Being aware of their surroundings
Reducing the fear of crime
Being confident, or appearing to be confident
Developing a safety plan, and having a safety network
 Trusting your “gut instincts”

Police also spoke about domestic and family violence, traffic-related rules and fines, home security, vehicle security and safe alcohol consumption.
All the students were given the QPS ” Safer Living For Queenslanders” booklet.
