Police help students prepare for life after school

Last week, Police and Police Liaison Officers (PLO’s) attended the annual Wavell Heights State School Year 12 Safety Expo to provide a variety of positive life skill tips and educate students on possible pitfalls they may face after leaving school.
There were many stalls present at the event, each sharing safety tips to the school leavers, including:

Queensland Police Service (QPS)
Queensland Ambulance Service
Safer Schoolies Team from the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women
Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation
Surf Life Saving Queensland
Mater Health Clarence Street

QPS held an interactive stall where students were able to experience beer goggles.
Beer goggles represent the effect that consuming alcohol can have on your coordination.
The students were tasked with having to walk in a straight line and perform simple tasks such as throwing and catching a ball.
Many of the students found keeping to the line much harder than they imagined.

Other effects of alcohol use include:

Reduced ability to judge
